By 2030 the elderly will account for one-fifth of New Zealands population. The over 85 age group is the fastest growing
it has ever been in human history. The demand of senior services does not have the infrastructure to support such a rapidly
growing demographic.
In Christchurch many families are geographically dispersed and adult children are not able to assist with the moving process.
They are not able to assist due to distance, career and family obligations. This increases the difficulty of seniors moving as
they may feel isolated and alone.
Older adults in some cases have not moved residence in 30, 40 or 50 years. The task of downsizing can seem too daunting to begin and many
seniors just put it off until their health forces them to relocate. The organisational task of such a complex move can also be very difficult
for family to complete.
